Let’s Talk Series
The HBCU Library Alliance hosts a recurring program called “Let’s Talk,” an hour-long Zoom webinar featuring insightful info-sharing sessions. With presentations by funders, project partners, and vendors, these community gatherings empower members with valuable knowledge about grant opportunities, new programs, and peer institution updates. We build considerable time for Q&A and breakout room discussion (when necessary).
Session Title: Empowering HBCU Librarians for the Future of Democracy and Education
Date: September 11, 2024
Speaker: John Chrastka, Founder and Executive Director of EveryLibrary
Description: EveryLibrary, in partnership with the HBCU Library Alliance, was in the planning phases of a leadership development series addressing key issues for HBCU librarians. John Chrastka, Founder of EveryLibrary, led the session, offering insights into the legislative landscape shaping academic libraries, including the impact of Project 2025 on libraries. The session also explored member interest in critical topics such as Values-Aligned Budgeting, Interdepartmental Relationships, the Student to Scholar Pipeline, Marketing to Gain Support, Alumni Engagement and Culture Building, and the Leadership Development Series. We aimed to gain valuable insights from members about their needs, gather feedback on proposed sessions, and answer questions about library advocacy.
