2018 Membership Meeting –
The Transforming HBCU Library Alliance: Revisit, Refocus, Reframe

The historic 8th Membership Meeting of the HBCU Library Alliance was hosted at the Atlanta University Center Woodruff Library on Monday and Tuesday, October 8 and 9. Fifty-five individuals representing forty-two institutions convened to network and celebrate the transforming HBCU Library Alliance.

On Sunday, October 7, HBCU Library Alliance Board member Debbie Hess Norris, University of Delaware, and Lee Price, Director of Development at the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts (PA), facilitated the “Fundraising Strategies for HBCUs” pre-conference to more than thirty attendees.

Jacob Nadal, Director for Preservation, Library of Congress, delivered a compelling keynote address. Nadal spoke to the power of cooperative action, consortia at the heart of collaborations, and connecting the community to their libraries. Library of Congress was one of six host sites for the HBCU Library Alliance 2018 Summer Intern program. Nadal also recognized summer intern Miranda Clinton, a rising junior at North Carolina Central University and thanked her for spending the summer working at Library of Congress.

Project partners joined us to celebrate the value and contributions of the HBCU Library Alliance and are listed in the program booklet.

Conference presentations by members highlighted activities to transform libraries for improved service to faculty, student and patron community.
